Last year, Alberta passed Bill 17, Fair and Family-friendly Workplaces Act, which included amendments (to be proclaimed) to youth worker provisions. In particular, Bill 17 provided that individuals age 13-15 may be employed in an “artistic endeavour” or “light work” (to be defined after consultation) with the consent of a parent. Manitoba Bill 20, The Employment Standards Code Amendment Act (2) and Bill 219, The Workplace Safety and Health Amendment Act (Inappropriate or Unsafe Footwear) received royal assent on June 4, 2018.
The Manitoba government introduced Bill 20, The Employment Standards Code Amendment Act (2), for first reading on March 20, 2018. If passed, the Bill will make a number of changes to the Manitoba Employment Standards Code, including:
