Federal Government Proclaims Canada Labour Code Amendments in Force (Updated)

Federal Passes Bill C-86 Budget Bill re Pay Equity & Employment Standards
Federal Bill C-86, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 27, 2018 and other measures, received royal assent on December 13, 2018. Federal Consultation Report re Labour Standards
Yesterday, the federal government published "What we Heard: Modernizing Federal Labour Standards". The report summarizes the view of unions, labour organizations, employers, employer organizations, academics, experts and advocacy groups as well as online survey respondents, which were provided as a part of a 10-month consultation on federal labour standards.
The report also indicates that the government is "committed to bringing forward legislation to update federal labour standards to reflect the realities of the 21st century workplace and the challenges of precarious work for workers in the federally regulated private sector."

Quebec Passes Bill 176 re Labour Standards
Earlier today, Quebec passed Bill 176, An Act to amend the Act respecting labour standards and other legislative provisions mainly to facilitate family-work balance. Bill 176 makes wide-ranging amendments to the Act respecting labour standards (the Act), relating to equal pay, hours of work, paid holidays, vacations, leaves of absence, psychological harassment, placement agencies, foreign workers, and differential treatment (in relation to pension plans) based on hiring date.
