Last year, Ontario passed Bill 148, Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017. The Bill included amendments to Part XII of the Employment Standards Act, 2000 requiring equal pay for equal work regardless of employment status (i.e., between casual, part-time, temporary and seasonal workers, and full-time or permanent workers). The work, skill, effort and responsibility must be "substantially the same", but not identical.
Last year, Ontario passed Bill 148, Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017. Bill 148 made substantial amendments to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) and the Labour Relations Act (LRA), many of which come into force on January 1, 2018.
The following amendments to Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario legislation and regulations came into force on January 1, 2018.
